Date set for DFB changes

According to the German FA's interim president Rainer Koch, 54-year-old Reinhard Grindel will be confirmed as Wolfgang Niersbach's successor in April. Grindel has the unanimous backing of the DFB's delegates.

Germany's Football Federation (DFB) is expected to confirm Reinhard Grindel as the new president of the organization on April 15.

The 54-year-old would be the permanent successor to Wolfgang Niersbach who resigned in November amid allegations of corruption around Germany's bid to host the World Cup in 2006.

A current member of Germany's parliament, Grindel is the former vice president of the Lower Saxony FA. He became the DFB's treasurer in 2013 and was proposed as a candidate to succeed Niersbach in November.

Grindel has unanimous support from the DFB's 259 delegates and the German Football League (DFL) and is likely to be the 12th president of the country's football federation. Should the Hamburg-born lawyer be given the presidency, the association will immediately look for a new treasurer.

Meanwhile, the DFB confirmed it will also look to fill the general secretary role at the congress. The position has been vacant since the resignation of Helmut Sandrock, a former member of the 2006 Organizing Committee, on February 26.
