Climate change on the high seas

Rising global temperatures have wrought significant change on the world‘s oceans. And that in turn has led to major consequences for people who live on or near the water. Along the north coast of the Philippines, increasing ocean temperatures and overfishing have led to dwindling fish stocks. As reporter Mabel Gundlach shows us in her video report, local communities have been forced to find ways to adapt. Similarly, in the South Pacific, warmer, more acidic waters are destroying precious coral reefs and in turn the local fish population. That has put at risk a central source of food for island towns and villages. In our background article, Eva Mahnke explores how those communities are dealing with the problem.
