Carnival, the festive season just before Lent, is a celebration held largely in Catholic areas around the world where people dress up for parades and parties. DW (English) social media followers show how they celebrated.
The longest carnival
Uruguay’s carnival is less famous than that of Brazil, New Orleans or Trinidad, but it’s the longest-running carnival in the world, lasting 40 days. This colorful event in Montevideo begins at the end of January with Las Llamadas (The Calls), and continues through March. Photo: Gabriel Esquiera
