Calm atmosphere in Turkish coastal resorts
July 18, 2016Travel operators say that following the failed attempted coup, things remain calm in tourist regions. A Thomas Cook spokesman referred to a normal situation in the resorts, many of which lie a long distance away from Ankara or Istanbul.
Travel company TUI has registered around 30 cancellations, but with some 18,000 guests in Turkey right now that is minimal. A spokesperson has described the situation as normal and there are no major travel delays.
Thomas Cook has said that the number of customers requesting information about safety issues in Turkey has dropped considerably. Only a few people cancelled their trips to Turkey at the weekend. But it is too early to say whether or not the attempted coup will affect the number of future bookings.
Tui, Alltours and Thomas Cook will cancel bookings for holidays in the immediate future free of charge. There is also no charge if clients wish to make alternative arrangements for later trips.
The German government expects things to slowly return to normal in Turkey. According to one statement by the Foreign Office, the situation in Turkey now seems to be stabilizing gradually.
