Man arrested for 'Deadpool' upload to Facebook
June 14, 2017Federal prosecutors arrested a man in central California on Tuesday for allegedly uploading the Marvel movie "Deadpool" to his Facebook page shortly after being released in theaters in February 2016.
Trevon Maurice Franklin, 21, was arrested on a federal criminal charge of "reproducing and distributing a copyrighted work," the US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California said in a statement. The case against the man was part of an investigation by the FBI.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in federal prison should Franklin be convicted.
Federal prosecutors said that Franklin used the screen name "Tre-Von M. King" to upload the film and that it was viewed more than 5 million times on his Facebook page.
The movie, staring actor Ryan Reynolds as the popular comic book figure, was one of the highest grossing movies in 2016.
