Lewandowski extends Bayern contract
December 13, 2016Bayern Munich's leading goal scorer put pen to paper on the contract extension at Bayern's Munich's headquarters in the south of the Bavarian capital on Tuesday.
The two-year extension will keep the 28-year-old Lewandowski at the club until the end of the 2020-21 season.
"I'm very happy the negotiations yielded a positive result and that I'll stay at Bayern for a few more years. We still have ambitious goals," Lewandowski said in a statement posted on the club's website.
"I'm happy we've secured the services of one of the world's best center-forwards over the long term," the Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was quoted as saying. "We now have certainty that another key player will wear the FC Bayern shirt in the coming years."
Lewandowski moved to Bayern from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund during the 2014 summer transfer window. A consistent goal scorer over the years, Lewandowski has 11 goals in 14 appearances so far this Bundesliga season. He finished last season as the league's top scorer with 30 goals.
