Bundesliga Matchday 7 in Pictures
Following the midweek action of matchday 6, the Bundesliga has returned to normal proceedings with its weekend fixtures. Naturally, there has been plenty of drama. Here are the best pictures so far.
Gladbach back with a bang
It was the perfect start to life as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach for Andre Schubert in the week. A 4-2 win over Augsburg has given hope of a brighter season to come, after the worst start in the club's history. On Saturday, a six-pointer with Stuttgart was the task, and again they delivered. A 3-1 win, despite Stuttgart's 22 shots on goal, makes it two wins in two for the Foals.
100 up for Robert Lewandowski
It's been quite the week for Robert Lewandowski. Having broken countless Bundesliga records with five goals in nine incredible minutes against Wolfsburg, the Polish striker travelled to Mainz with his Bayern Munich teammates looking for his 100th Bundesliga goal. In the end, he grabbed his 101st, too. A 3-0 win for Bayern extends their lead at the top to five points.
Vital point for Hannover
The pressure has been mounting on Michael Frontzeck and his Hannover side since the first kick of the season. With just one point to their tally, they travelled to Wolfsburg in search of a positive result, and came away with one. Hiroshi Kiyotake canceled out Bas Dost's early effort to give the Hannover fans something to finally cheer about. They do, though, remain bottom of the Bundesliga.
Hoffenheim get season's first win
It's been a slow start to the season for the usually entertaining Hoffenheim, who were without a win to their name heading into this weekend. Against struggling Augsburg, Markus Gisdol's side knew they had a chance to get on the right track. A brace from Kevin Volland and one from Jonathan Schmid secured a 3-1 over Augsburg, in a game dominated by Augsburg.
Leverkusen on a roll
After a less-than-impressive start to the season, Roger Schmidt's Bayer Leverkusen are now back on track after another win on Saturday, this time against Werder Bremen. Goals from Julian Brandt, Kevin Kampl and an own-goal from Assani Lukimya gave the traveling side a convincing 3-0 win. Werder Bremen failed to even register a single shot on target.
Cologne and Ingolstadt all-square
It was a tight and tense affair which opened matchday seven on Friday night. In Cologne, the hosts welcomed Ingolstadt, who had started the season in exactly the same way as the Billy Goats. Anthony Modeste's opener was canceled out by Marvin Matip's first Bundesliga goal on his 30th birthday, keeping the new-boys unbeaten away from home this season.
Four in a row for Schalke
In the late game on Saturday two of the Bundesliga's in-form sides faced off, as Hamburg welcomed Schalke. It was a largely dull affair, a single goal was enough to separate the sides in the end. Leroy Sane, who came off the bench, scored the winning goal - his third goal in three games - to take Schalke level with Borussia Dortmund on points.
The stuff of dreams for Darmstadt
It was an incredible final game of matchday seven, in which Borussia Dortmund went behind to Darmstadt. Marcel Heller's superb opener was reversed by two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the second-half, but that wasn't the end of the drama. In the final minute, Darmstadt captain Aytac Sulu snatched an incredible draw to keep Darmstadt riding high in ninth.
Hertha earn late draw
It was a tame affair at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, as Germany's capital club were in town trying to maintain it's best Bundesliga start to a season in eight years. The home side were having none of it, though, as Alex Meier opened the scoring in the first-half. It wasn't until the final ten minutes that Hertha produced what they needed. Vladimir Darida stole a point with his goal.
