Bundesliga Matchday 12 in pictures
Dortmund won a five-goal edition of the Ruhr Valley derby. Dominic Maroh had a day to remember in Leverkusen, while Oliver Baumann saved the day for Hoffenheim. Here are the key players and moments from matchday 12.
Dortmund a bit too much for Schalke in derby
If you're Borussia Dortmund, you know it's probably going to be your day when Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa scores a header. Kagawa's goal put Dortmund ahead in a game they dominated. The men in yellow and black failed to put arch-rivals Schalke away, though, so there were some tense final minutes before Dortmund booked a 3-2 home win.
Pizarro strikes again as Bremen beat Augsburg
It would be easy to forget that Claudio Pizarro is still playing. The 37-year-old hasn't had much of an impact this season for Werder Bremen. But on Sunday, he was back on the score sheet, netting the first goal in the northern Germans' 2-1 win over cellar-dwellers Augsburg. Pizzaro's record for the most Bundesliga goals of any foriegn player now stands at 177.
Maroh wins the derby
It was a day to remember for Dominic Maroh, who scored both of Cologne's goals in the derby against Bayer Leverkusen. His opener, assisted by Papadopoulos, was cancelled out by Javier Hernandez's eighth goal in six games. Having scored his first goal in just under a year, Maroh felt it necessary to pop up once again and give Cologne local bragging rights.
Heller after half time
Hamburg were the better side for the first half, but 61 seconds after the restart Darmstadt took advantage of some slack defending to equalise. Marcel Heller scored - with his head - and now has five goals and one assist this season. The 29-year-old winger has become an integral part of the Darmstadt team.
Arjen Robben back in motion
It's been tough for Arjen Robben recently. The winger, who was injured at the start of the season, has also seen his new teammates Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman come in and hit the ground running. Today, the Dutchman showed what he still has to offer. His goal opened the scoring on the day, which was extended to four before the break, as Bayern dismantled Stuttgart.
Draxler unfortunate to see red
Wolfsburg's Julian Draxler has been trying his best to replace Kevin de Bruyne since joining from Schalke on transfer deadline day. Recently the Germany international has found his form, but on Saturday against Mainz, he saw red in unfortunate circumstances. As he turned to control the ball, Gonzalo Jaro got his shoulder in the way of Draxler's boot. An appeal is expected.
Xhaka the highlight, for the wrong reasons
As Gladbach came up short in search of a seventh win in a row. Temporary captain Granit Xhaka made himself the highlight in a goalless draw with Ingolstadt. His six fouls, eventually, resulted in two yellow cards and an early bath. It's his fourth in the Bundesliga, but the first this season.
Baumann the difference
The best side in Sinsheim certainly wasn't wearing blue on Saturday, as Hoffenheim stayed without a win at home in the Bundesliga this season, mainly thanks to Oliver Baumann. The goalkeeper made several top class saves to deny the away side from grabbing a win, in what turned into a exciting goalless draw for the visitors.
How about Salomon Kalou?
It was a night to remember in Hannover for Salomon Kalou, who bagged his first career hat-trick since March 2013, when playing for Lille in France. Kalou's goals have been vital to the capital club rising to the heights of fourth place in the Bundesliga this season. The Berliners will be hoping to see more in the weeks ahead.
