Bayern Embarrassed, Wolfsburg Wins Goalfest

Brazilian World Cup winner Lucio was dismissed in the second half for stomping on Czech opponent Vaclav Sverkos, capping a miserable afternoon for Felix Magath's Bavarian outfit.

Playing Bayern in your first match in charge is not ideal but interim 'Gladbach chief Horst Koppel, who stepped in to replace Holger Fach when he was sacked on Wednesday, kept a cool head -- and goals from Marcelo Pletsch and Joris van Hout made his job easier.

Bayern's third defeat of the campaign means they slip to fifth in the German table, four points adrift of leaders VfL Wolfsburg. Bulgarian international Martin Petrov scored an incredible four goals, including two penalties as Wolfsburg came from two goals down to defeat Mainz 05 4-3.

In the Sunday games, Kaiserslautern boss Kurt Jara lived to fight another day after a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Arminia Bielefeld. Substitute Selim Teber cancelled out Delron Buckley's 79th minute opener and struck a late winner to move Kaiserslautern off the bottom spot.

Replacing them there is Hansa Rostock, who lost a yawner to FC Nuremberg 0-2. With six straight home defeats, Rostock sets a Bundesliga record and is officially in a crisis.

Elsewhere, Schalke 04 manager Ralf Rangnick guided his side to a fifth straight league win on Saturday in a thrilling 3-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart. Brazilian Ailton scored after just forty seconds to register his third goal in as many matches and further striks from Levan Kobiaschvili (2) and Brazilian Lincoln (25) gave Stuttgart a mountain that proved too steep to climb.

"It's one of the best matches I've seen in the Bundesliga in years," said Schalke manager Rudi Assauer. "It was really back and forth. Stuttgart really managed to come back."

After going the first eight games unbeaten Stuttgart have now lost three in a row.

Rangnick created Bundesliga history becoming the first manager to win his first five matches in the league.

Schalke are now second in the table in a topsy-turvy season that saw them flirt with the relegation zone early in the season causing the dismissal of Jupp Heynckes as coach.

It was also a good day for Schalke's arch rivals Borussia Dortmund who notched their first home win of the season with Bayer Leverkusen on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline. Brazilian Ewerthon scored the only goal after 41 minutes.
