Canada's national motto, "A Mari Usque Ad Mare," or "From Sea to Sea," is an ambitious goal for travelers. Although some visitors might hope they can tick all of the country's most popular sites off their bucket list, a real Canadian adventure requires time to explore a specific region, to get lost in one of its numerous national parks or to enjoy the rhythm of the local culture.

The gallery above provides 10 suggestions of amazing locations that couldn't possibly be visited in one short trip, from the East Coast to the West Coast of the world's second-largest country.

Canada officially became a confederation on July 1, 1867. To celebrate the country's 150th anniversary, Parks Canada is offering throughout 2017 free admission to all of its locations, such as Banff and Gros Morne National Parks. Fees for camping and other rentals are however not included.
